Another recipient of the Eisner Award and one of the most renowned and popular comic book artists in the world, Eduardo Risso from Argentina, will be a guest at the 19th edition of the Herceg Novi Comics Festival (HSF) next year.

“As the public has come to expect from HSF, as a very serious organization, guest artists for the most significant event dedicated to the ninth art in this part of Europe are arranged months in advance. With pride, we can now announce the first of 12 special guests—a brilliant and exceptionally important and popular artist currently working on the Moonshine comic for Image Comics, as well as Batman, DC Horror Presents, and other major projects for one of the largest publishing houses in the world, DC Comics,” the organizers of the Herceg Novi Comics Festival announced. The festival will take place from September 5 to 10, 2025, at various locations in Herceg Novi and the Bay of Kotor.

Reiterating their mission to bring the world’s greatest artists to the city, the Bay of Kotor, and Montenegro, and to establish the country as one of the most prominent global destinations for the ninth art, the HSF organizers revealed that Eduardo Risso is the first of 12 special guests for the next edition of the festival. He has gladly accepted the invitation, and his arrival in Herceg Novi is yet another testament to the exceptional quality of this event and the remarkable reputation HSF has built over its 18 years by raising the bar in both artistic and organizational aspects.

Eduardo Antonio Risso, born in 1959 in Leones, Córdoba Province, Argentina, began his career as an illustrator for the newspaper La Nación in 1981 and published several works in the magazines Eroticón and Satiricón.

The legendary publishing house Editorial Columba provided him with the artistic advancement he desired through projects like Holocaust, Julius Caesar, and Angel, the latter in collaboration with Robin Wood. His first engagement in Europe was the comic Azor, created by Ray Collins. In 1987, at the invitation of writer Ricardo Barreiro, he began the series Park Chess for Fierro magazine. The following year, he illustrated Cain, and an unexpected call from Carlos Trillo led him to work on the comic Fulú. After the success of that title, they continued collaborating until the mid-1990s.

With the project 100 Bullets, Risso won Eisner Awards in 2001 for Best Serialized Story and in 2002 for Best Artist and Best Continuing Series, and again in 2004 in the latter category. He also received two Harvey Awards for Best Artist and Best Continuing Series, as well as the Yellow Kid Award for Best Artist in 2003.

Since 2016, Risso has been devoted to working on one of the most famous superheroes, Batman, through Dark Night: A True Batman Story for DC Comics. That same year, he began work on Moonshine for Image Comics, a project he continues to this day. In addition to these, this remarkable artist has also created covers for Red Sonja, Superman, and many other comics. His international recognition has been a significant boost to the restructuring of comics in Argentina. Since 2010, he has chaired the Organizing Committee of Crack Bang Boom, the International Comics Congress, in Rosario, Argentina.

Eduardo Antonio Risso is one of the greatest living illustrators in the ninth art. In September 2025, he will be in Herceg Novi, where, alongside over a hundred other artists, he will exhibit his works and create free drawings for all fans, thanks to the Herceg Novi Comics Festival. The festival continues to await its official designation as a cultural event of national importance for Montenegro, a country to which it has brought hundreds of the world’s best artists from 22 countries over the past 18 years.
