The caravan of the Herceg Novi Comic Festival (HSF) visited Tivat yesterday, where artists from around the world drew for fans. Enthusiasts of the ninth art had the chance to meet and talk with comic masters, as well as acquire editions from the rich regional scene at the fair.

The comic caravan’s journey beyond Herceg Novi, crossing the ferry, has become a customary practice in the days leading up to the festival’s finale. This year, the program was once again organized with the support and collaboration of the Municipality of Tivat.

Among the visitors at today’s fan-drawing session in front of DTV Partizan was the Mayor of Tivat, Željko Komnenović:
“The local government is very pleased with the model of collaboration with the Herceg Novi Comic Festival, as a cultural phenomenon expanding its reach to Tivat and, ideally, the entire Bay of Kotor region.”

Komnenović particularly highlighted the importance of these programs in introducing the youngest audience to comics:
“What we are especially grateful to the people of the Herceg Novi Comic Festival for is the fact that they always bring eminent authors to Tivat and Herceg Novi. This gives children in Tivat the opportunity to meet these creators. This creates synergy and new value. We will continue nurturing this partnership and hope to expand it in the future.”

The penultimate day of the 18th Herceg Novi Comic Festival was rounded off with a concert by the Boka All Stars band in the iconic amphitheater of the “Park” hall. The audience reaffirmed their fondness for this resident festival band by dancing to soul, disco, and funk numbers performed masterfully by vocalist Marko Vlahović, jazz musician Šule Jovović, multi-instrumentalist Goran Gump Milojević, Dragan Ivanović on bass and keyboards, drummer Martin Đorđević, and special guest Rambo Amadeus. DJ teams 2Beat and Groovy Castel Nuovo kept the atmosphere lively after the concert.

“I want this festival to last at least 118 years because I believe it’s one of the best things to happen to my town. It’s such an honor and joy to be a part of it, and I get goosebumps every time I’m here,” said Goran Gump Milojević.

Reflecting on the journey from the first edition of the festival to today, he noted that it was built on the enthusiasm of three people and has undergone a demanding developmental path:
“People will realize in a few years who all these individuals were who came to this town because of the festival—artists and musicians alike. Comics are just the pretext; what’s celebrated is life and joy.”

The comic caravan continues today, venturing beyond the Bay of Kotor for the first time to its highest point yet: by cable car to Lovćen.

At Monte 1350 bar, located at the cable car’s mountain destination, a fan-drawing session, an outdoor drawing school, and traditional drawing for the “comic in a bottle” will take place from 1 to 5 PM. The background music program will be provided by 2Beat and Groovy Castel Nuovo.

“The Herceg Novi Comic Festival, in its 18 years, has continuously sought to change locations, hosting events in as many places as possible to engage the widest community and bring culture directly to people’s doors. This year, for the first time, we’re venturing outside the Bay, taking the cable car from Kotor to Lovćen, ascending from sea level to 1,350 meters,” said one of the organizers, Nebojša Mandić.

He emphasized that the 150 guests from 20 countries attending the festival would experience the beauty of the Bay from yet another perspective and see why it is ranked among the world’s 25 most beautiful bays.

In the evening, the HSF caravan returns to its home base, Herceg Novi, where this year’s festival will conclude with a performance by Vojko V, one of the most significant names in the Yugoslav rap scene.

Andrija Vujević, known as Vojko, rose to fame as a member of the groups Dječaci and Kiša metaka. He began his solo career in 2018 with the song “Zovi čovika.” That year, he released two more singles, “Pasta Italiana” and “Ne može,” followed by his first solo album, which earned him six nominations for the “Porin” Music Award, winning three—for Album of the Year, Best Club Music Album, and Best Video for the song “Ne može.”

The program at the “People’s” bar in Topla starts at 8 PM, with Herceg Novi-based performers 2Beat and Groovy Castel Nuovo opening for Vojko V.

As always, all festival programs are free for visitors.

The patrons and partners of the 18th Herceg Novi Comic Festival include the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the Municipality of Tivat, the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, the Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro, the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro, the Tourism Organization of Herceg Novi, the embassies of the USA, Italy, Slovenia, France, the UK, and Spain, as well as over 60 sponsors, including representatives of the tourism industry and companies from Herceg Novi and Montenegro.
