The Herceg Novi Comics Festival (HSF) will provide support and assistance in organizing the newly announced Trebinje festival dedicated to the ninth art. A working meeting on this topic was held today between HSF organizers and the leadership of Trebinje and Herceg Novi municipalities.
Mirko Ćurić, the mayor of Trebinje, emphasized the great interest generated by this event.
“I believe that together, Trebinje and Herceg Novi can achieve a significant investment for us, which will undoubtedly generate revenue for both the Municipality of Herceg Novi and the city of Trebinje. It is by no means an expense but a long-term goal. There is no generation that isn’t interested, whether young or old, in comics. What we want to highlight here today is the opportunity to fill a period when the number of tourists in Trebinje is not particularly high,” said Ćurić.
Jovan Subotić from HSF expressed great satisfaction that Trebinje has shown interest in dedicating itself to the ninth art and including a festival similar to the one in Herceg Novi in its cultural program.
“Regionally, there are about ten to fifteen such events, which reflect the sophistication and richness of a city’s cultural offerings. My fellow organizers Nebojša Mandić, Nikola Ćurčin, and I are ready to put our network of contacts and experience into creating a fantastic festival in Trebinje in 2025,” Subotić noted.
Mirko Mustur, Deputy Mayor of Herceg Novi, confirmed the excellent cooperation between the two twin cities.
“Cities engaged in tourism, aiming to enhance their offerings and be recognized in Europe and the world, must host such events. These attract prominent individuals who then share information about our cities, acting as our ambassadors. This is why this initiative is of great importance and why Trebinje will benefit from becoming part of this story,” said Mustur.
Miljan Vuković, Director of the Cultural Center of Trebinje, stated that the city has become a recognizable hub in the region in recent years. However, he admitted they had been watching HSF with envy for 18 years as it grew into the most significant festival of the ninth art in Southeast Europe and beyond.
“There is a ‘gap’ in Trebinje’s cultural offerings, namely a festival dedicated to comic art and this type of cultural content. We leveraged our friendly and fraternal ties with Herceg Novi and cultural professionals there, essentially enlisting their full support to establish a new festival in Trebinje,” Vuković explained.
The announced comics festival will take place in May.
