Tanino Liberatore

Tanino Liberatore is one of the most significant Italian illustrators and comic book artists of all time. His youth was marked by friendships with comic legends Andrea Pazienza and Stefano Tamburini, under whose influence he entered the world of comics and published his first works in Tamburini’s magazine, *Cannibal*. With their support, Liberatore created “RanXerox,” his most famous and long-lasting comic. He also contributed to iconic magazines like *Il Male*, *Frigidaire*, *Echo des Savanes*, *Transfer*, *Métal Hurlant*, *To Be Continued*, *Chic*, *Hustler*, and *Twisted Tales*, working with scripts by some of the world’s most renowned authors.

Tamburini’s untimely death distanced Liberatore from comics, leading him to focus on illustration and film work. He illustrated album covers for famous bands, the most notable being the cover for Frank Zappa’s *The Man from Utopia*, where the musician is depicted as RanXerox. In the film industry, he found success as an art director, costume designer, and set designer.

He occasionally returns to comics, reviving his most famous hero, RanXerox, creating special Batman episodes for the “Black and White” series, short stories for the legendary *Heavy Metal* magazine, and the phenomenal album *Lucy* for the French publisher Glénat.
