19th HSF

september 2025

Eighteen years of work have culminated in the tenth, anniversary edition of the Herceg Novi Comic Weekend, where we, together with the chief editors, celebrated the rebirth of the world’s most influential comic book magazine – Heavy Metal Magazine. At the same time, for fans of the ninth art, we have prepared the greatest visual and musical spectacle ever seen in this region – the 19th Herceg Novi Comic Festival.
Joining us are giants of visual art such as Eduardo Risso, François Boucq, Jock, and Khary Randolph, while one of today’s most prominent comic authors, the incredible Stevan Subić, will present a solo exhibition a decade after his debut at HSF. We will also pay tribute to the timeless Hugo Pratt on the thirtieth anniversary of his passing into immortality.
The music program is also stepping up its game, featuring performances by Ida Prester & Lollobrigida, Artan Lili, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, TBF, 16-OSAM-23, Boka All Stars, Paks, and spectacular DJ sets. As a special treat, we’re bringing you the multimedia spectacle Moby Dick City Blues through the European project Comics Beyond!
What more can we say – enjoy!

10th Comics Weekend

May 2025

The tenth anniversary edition of the Herceg Novi Comic Weekend, themed “Long Live Heavy Metal,” will take place at several locations across Herceg Novi from May 30 to June 1, marking the world festival premiere of the newly revived Heavy Metal magazine.

Founded in 1977 as the American licensed edition of the legendary French magazine Métal Hurlant, Heavy Metal published comics by some of the greatest artists in the world, focusing on science fiction, dark fantasy, erotica, and steampunk. After 45 years and 320 issues, the magazine ceased publication in early 2023 due to changes in ownership and financial difficulties. However, comic fans refused to accept this ending. The rights holder brought together a new editorial team, developed a fresh business plan, launched a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, and after two years of dedicated work, the brand-new Heavy Metal #1 was officially released on April 30 of this year.

The biggest year in the history of the Hercegnovski Comic Festival began with the magnificent ninth Comic Weekend and the visit of one of the greatest artists of all time, Milo Manara. After the festival was presented in Zagreb, Naples, Belgrade, and Nikšić, this September we can expect the best edition of HSF yet, which will feature, among others, the new member of the Hall of Fame, Jill Thompson, and the legend of the global comic scene, Tanino Liberatore. Special attention was dedicated to the three-day comic workshops for primary and secondary school children, while the fourth masterclass on drawing and book illustration will be led by the Italian maestro Giorgio Pontreli. The festival’s music program reaches its peak with performances by Detour, Kralj Čačka, Marčelo, Dža ili Bu, Boka All Stars, Vojko V, Bolesna Štenad, Mali Demon, and the best representatives of the local music scene. The Hercegnovski Comic Festival brings world-class entertainment to its town, Boka Bay, and Montenegro again this summer.
